Support for teens and adults who are ready to build independence, confidence, and real-life skills — on their terms.

At Empowered Steps ABA, I provide compassionate, individualized Applied Behavior Analysis services for teens and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities. Rooted in assent-based and trauma-informed practices, my mission is to support growth, foster self-advocacy, and promote independence. All services are delivered directly by me—a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst—so there’s no three-tier model and no hand-offs, just consistent, high-quality, personalized care. Whether through direct therapy, parent coaching, or support with everyday challenges, I'm here to walk beside you—one empowered step at a time.

What this support looks like?

Support is individualized and happens in real-life contexts, not just structured sessions or preset programs. This work is practical, flexible, and focused on the things that actually make day-to-day life easier and more manageable. This might include:
- Building and maintaining daily routines
- Managing schedules, tasks, and follow-through
- Breaking down overwhelming responsibilities into manageable steps
- Learning skills like budgeting, cooking, or navigating transportation
- Support with school, jobs, or major life transitions
- Developing independence in everyday living
- Strengthening communication, self-advocacy, and confidence
Sessions are collaborative and tailored to your goals, not a one-size-fits-all curriculum. We focus on what matters to you, move at your pace, and adjust as your needs evolve.

Meet the BCBA

Hi, I’m Samantha, a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA) based in Washington.I’ve been working in the field of ABA since 2019, supporting individuals across home, school, and community settings. While I’ve worked with all ages, I now focus on teens and adults navigating independence, executive functioning, and the transition into real life.I’m also neurodivergent myself, which shapes how I approach this work. I understand how frustrating it can be when support doesn’t actually fit, and I prioritize approaches that are practical, flexible, and aligned with how each person functions best.I created Empowered Steps because I saw a gap in services, especially for older individuals who still need support but don’t fit into traditional systems. Many people are left feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or overlooked, and I wanted to create something different.I also recognize that many individuals and families have had negative experiences with compliance-centered care. That is not the approach I take. My work is grounded in assent-based, trauma-informed practices that prioritize autonomy, collaboration, and trust.I specialize in helping teens and adults build independence, strengthen executive functioning, and navigate everyday life, whether that’s routines, responsibilities, school, work, or next steps. I also provide parent and caregiver coaching for those who feel stuck or unsure how to best support their child. All services are provided directly by me, allowing for consistent, personalized support and a strong working relationship. My goal is simple: to help people feel more capable, confident, and in control of their lives.I’m here to walk alongside you, one empowered step at a time.

Cost of Services

Services are offered on a sliding scale private pay basis, as well as through DDA for eligible clients.Working outside of insurance allows for more flexible, individualized support — without restrictions on diagnosis, age, or rigid treatment models. It also means we can focus on what’s actually helpful in real life, rather than what insurance requires.

ServicePrivate Pay Price
Direct Support Sessions$60-160/hour
Parent/Caregiver Coaching$75-200/hour
Assessments/Behavior Support Plan (if needed)$75-200/hour + assessment costs
  • DDCS Services: For clients receiving services through the Developmental Disabilities Community Services (DDCS/DDA), I am contracted to provide Specialized Habilitation and Staff and Family Consultation at no out-of-pocket cost.

If you’re unsure about coverage or eligibility, feel free to reach out—I’m happy to help you explore your options.I offer a free consultation to talk through your goals, answer questions, and determine if this is the right fit.

Why private pay?

Traditional insurance-based services often prioritize high-hour therapy models and strict eligibility requirements. In many cases, teens and adults — or individuals without a formal diagnosis — are left without access to meaningful support.By working outside of insurance, I’m able to:- Support individuals with or without formal diagnoses
- Focus on real-life skills and independence
- Provide flexible, personalized care based on your goals
This allows for a more collaborative, practical, and individualized experience.A note on cost:
ABA services across the U.S. are often billed hourly, with typical rates ranging from approximately $120 - 250 per hour depending on provider experience and location.
Rather than a high-hour model, my services are designed to be more focused, flexible, and sustainable. Helping you build skills and systems that reduce the need for long-term intensive support.

What to expect:

Unlike traditional ABA services, this is not a high-hour, intensive therapy model. Most clients benefit from a more flexible, real-world approach focused on building sustainable skills and systems over time.Sessions may include a combination of:- Direct support in real-life settings
- Problem-solving and skill-building
- Parent or caregiver collaboration (when applicable)
The focus is on meaningful progress that carries into everyday life, not just structured session time.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Who provides the services at Empowered Steps ABA?
All services are provided directly by me, Samantha Menendez, a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA). I do not use a three-tier model—no technicians or assistants—so you’ll always work directly with me. See About page for more information.
2. Do I need an autism diagnosis to work with you?
No. I work with individuals with and without formal diagnoses. While I support many individuals with autism and ADHD, my services are designed for anyone who is struggling with executive functioning, independence, or day-to-day life skills and wants practical, personalized support.
3. Is this ABA therapy?
My work is rooted in the science of behavior, but it may look very different from traditional ABA. I focus on real-life, practical support in natural environments, and my approach is fully assent-based and trauma-informed. This means collaboration, flexibility, and respect for autonomy are central to everything we do.
4. What makes your approach different from traditional ABA services?
Many traditional services rely on high-hour therapy models, strict treatment plans, and compliance-based approaches. My work is intentionally different. I focus on real-life skills, flexible support, and collaboration rather than compliance. The goal is to build skills that actually carry over into everyday life.
5. What ages do you work with?
I primarily work with teens and adults. I also offer parent and caregiver coaching for individuals of all ages.
6. Do you accept insurance?
At this time, I offer services through private pay and DDA. Working outside of insurance allows for more flexibility, more individualized support, and the ability to work with clients who may not otherwise qualify for services. See Costs page for more information.
7. Do you offer sliding scale rates?
Yes. All services are offered at sliding scale rates. Rates are determined based on financial need and are reviewed periodically. See Costs page for more information.
8. How often do services occur?
Services are scheduled based on your needs and goals, rather than a fixed number of hours per week. This is not a high-hour therapy model. Most clients benefit from a flexible, sustainable approach.
9. Where do services take place?
Sessions are flexible and can take place in real-life environments whenever possible, such as at home or in the community. Telehealth options are also available. I’m based in Seattle, Washington and provide services across the state through secure video sessions.
10. What if I’ve had a negative experience with ABA in the past?
You’re not alone. Many individuals and families have had experiences that felt overly rigid or compliance-focused. My approach is intentionally different, grounded in respect, autonomy, and collaboration. If this is something you’re concerned about, we can talk through it during your consultation.
11. What’s the first step to getting started?
You can start by reaching out through the contact form or email [email protected]. I offer a free consultation to discuss your goals, answer questions, and determine whether we’re a good fit.
